Ranch Data – Management

By understanding grazing history at TomKat Ranch, we can better connect the influence of livestock on soil health and ecosystem function. Grazing is one of the key tools for rangeland management and understanding how the landscape reacts to changes in stocking density, grazing severity and recovery times provides critical feedback for improving decision-making over time.

In 2023 and 2024, TomKat Ranch staff recorded the movement of animals in and out of fields to track grazing intensity in each field. Point Blue Conservation Science summarized these data as the total number of days grazed and the number of animal-days per acre (ADA) by season.
