Ag Day is an annual celebration of California’s agricultural community, highlighting the state’s diverse crops and commodities. This year’s theme, “California Leading the Way,” also honored the “International Year of the Woman Farmer.” Booths offered educational opportunities for attendees—from K-12 students to adults and government officials—to learn about key agricultural issues, understand the origins of their food, and how it is produced.
For TomKat Ranch Educational Foundation and the Office of Kat Taylor/Agriculture Platform Collective (APC) the day was a valuable opportunity to educate government leaders, state legislators, and the public about regenerative agriculture and regenerative ranching.
The event, held on the west steps of the Sacramento Capitol Building, was very well attended in spite of, or perhaps in celebration of the rain that fell that morning during event setup!
Hundreds of participants from various nonprofit organizations—including CAFF, Roots of Change, Audubon Conservation Grazing, and our colleagues at APC—came together with farmers from across the state and agricultural program staff from universities and agencies.
Notable figures from California’s farming community, including California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) Secretary Karen Ross, spoke about the importance of preserving California’s agricultural bounty and maintaining healthy, fertile soil for future generations. We were honored to be there to share our work and celebrate and visit with our amazing agricultural community in California.
