Recently, we had the opportunity to host a small gathering led by Kirk Bergstrom of WorldLink and Kate Geagan of Food + Planet—voices long committed to building a healthier, more resilient food future. Together with a group of educators, medical professionals, and food-system advocates, the group came together to align around a shared vision: refining and advancing Nourish 1.0 into Nourish 2.0.
Background on Nourish 1.0
Nourish, a program designed to inspire food system literacy, began as an initiative in 2010, launched with support from the TomKat Foundation and others, and has since evolved into a WorldLink program. Nourish includes a comprehensive toolkit with a PBS special, short films, a website hub, and curriculum materials. These resources help teachers, students, parents, and other community members reimagine their relationship with food and food systems. Nourish 1.0 reached over 20 million people, fostering awareness of the critical connections between our food choices, food systems, our health, and the health of our planet.
Advancing the Vision: Nourish 2.0
The convening’s primary goal was to advance the concept of Nourish 1.0 and begin to imagine its evolution into Nourish 2.0. This new phase envisions expanding the resources and audience to further enhance the capabilities of food literacy practitioners. To maximize the effectiveness of Nourish 2.0, WorldLink is collaborating with over 50 organizations dedicated to creating a sustainable food future. Nourish continues to celebrate both food and community with a distinctly positive vision.
The group gathered for a day and a half, focusing on three main areas:
- K-16 Education
- Food as Medicine
- Regenerative Agriculture and Farm-to-Institution
Bringing together this collective of values, multiple perspectives, and ideas was essential to ‘beef up’ the planning and scaling stages for Nourish 2.0. We look forward to seeing the positive results of this effort and sharing them with you in the future!
