William MilliotAt TKREF, we approach regenerative agriculture from many angles. Where we can use technological innovation to improve health, reduce stress, or measure our impact on the earth, we do so.

Last week, Ashley Sweeting from Agscent came to TomKat Ranch to pregnancy test our cattle with the Agscent breath diagnostic prototype they are developing for cattle using NASA nanotechnology sensors. The TomKat cow pregnancy data will contribute to building and refining the Agscent algorithm. Breath diagnostics are much less invasive and stressful on the cow than palpation. It takes about the same time as a blood draw, but again, there is no stress on the livestock. We walked them through the chute again when done, with no resistance from the animal, a good sign.

Agscent Breath Diagnostic technology allows point of care (POC) pregnancy and disease diagnostics. The aim is to improve livestock and dairy operator productivity, decrease costs, reduce operator injury, and improve animal welfare. Agscent expects the first version of the device to be on the market by the end of the year.

Check out the video to see what it was like to test our cattle with the Agscent Breath Diagnostic device!
